Pizza Night > Dinner Reservations

Posted by Emily Bates on Feb 20th 2026

This year for Valentine’s, we skipped the restaurant and made pizza at home! It turned into one of those simple, cozy nights that felt special without trying too hard. We each made our own pizzas, used our pizza peel boards, and even made a mini heart pizza for the dogs.

Dallas likes to go all in with flavor, with things like buffalo sauce, Cajun seasoning, extra spices. I’m more of a classic pizza person: sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. Making our own meant we both got exactly what we wanted, plus who doesn't love leftover pizza!

And the best part? The boards.

They’re designed for serving, but we just flip them over to the non-engraved side to cut the pizza. Then once everything’s cleaned up, you can turn them back to the engraved side and display them in your kitchen. Functional and pretty, which is always the goal.

Care is simple: hand wash and occasionally treat with mineral oil to keep the wood looking it's best.

It's one of our favorite date nights especially on Fridays when we have a little more time to enjoy the process!

This is the crust we used, super easy and no rise time:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough discard (unfed, straight from the fridge is fine)

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • ⅓ cup water (adjust slightly as needed)

  • Optional: garlic powder or dried herbs

Instructions

1. Preheat oven
Preheat to 450°F. If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it heats.

2. Mix the dough
In a bowl, stir together sourdough discard, flour, salt, baking powder, and olive oil. Add water gradually and mix until a soft dough forms. It should be slightly tacky but not sticky.

3. Knead briefly
Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 1–2 minutes, just until smooth.

4. Roll it out
Divide if making smaller pizzas. Roll to your desired thickness.

5. Add toppings
Place dough on parchment, brush lightly with olive oil, then add sauce, cheese, and toppings.

6. Bake
Transfer to oven and bake 12–15 minutes, until edges are golden and crisp.

7. Slice & serve
Let cool for a minute or two, then slice and enjoy.
